We drove all day today in the rain to reach St. Barbe where we catch the ferry to Labrador tomorrow. The views were magnificent much of the way and mostly on my side of the truck. With the rain it made it impossible for Kelly to take any good pictures. Hopefully on the way back the weather will be better and Kelly can get some good shots. There are very few pull offs large enough for our rig to get into and the bad part is that most of the time they do not give you a road sign telling you they are ahead. The road up here was great through Gran Morne National Park but then deteriorated considerably. There are lots of potholes, many of which have been poorly patched. There is little traffic so I was able to slow down and try to weave around as many as possible.
Here are a couple of pictures of the St. Barbe RV Park I took after it finally quit raining this afternoon.
It is just a big gravel lot inside a chain link fence with electric hookups and picnic tables on the outer perimeter. It is $40.00 Canadian per night, which is high for just electric hookups, but it is literally just across the street from the ferry terminal so it couldn't be handier.
After checking in we walked across the street to the motel restaurant and had a nice lunch. We then stopped in at the ferry terminal and she said we could not check in until tomorrow morning but that we needed to check in at least an hour before departure at 10:30 a.m.
The RV park building is really, really nice with a wonderful laundromat, kitchen, game room, and showers. The Wifi works great in the building but not from our camping spot which is only about 150 feet away. I don't think they have any outside Wifi antennas. While I am doing this blog Kellen is plugged in and on his phone watching videos of some type. While we are traveling he listens to music on his phone and sleeps a lot. We woke him up one time to look at the scenery and he said "I wasn't sleeping, I was deep in my thoughts". Right.
We are letting him pull the truck forward when we unhook from the trailer and he thinks that is quite a deal. We are teaching him why we have to put blocks under the tires sometimes to level, how to chock the tires, how to drop the landing gear, etc. I particularly want the RV level here because we will be gone for two days and I want to make sure the refrigerator works well. It got up into the high forties today so Kelly has two electric heaters going in the RV to keep her warm. We will take heavier coats with us to Labrador because the weather prediction is some rain and continued cold. I asked the lady here at the office if it was unseasonably cool and she said that it was but that last year at this time she had to shovel snow from in front of the door so she wasn't complaining.
Tonight Kellen and I will come over to the building and take nice showers since we have no water or sewer hookups.
Belated Happy Birthday. Hope you had a good day. Thanks for the detailed reports from CANADA. Loved your comment about your father and brother when asked whether turning 70 was painful. Love the perspective. Carol and John.
